Now that we have collected the funds and produced our self-care kits, it was time to distribute them. As each group was supposed to send two members to aid with distribution, I volunteered myself as I was still in town during my mid-semester break to join the Kechara Soup Kitchen team. While I managed to join them on the day itself for the briefing, unfortunately, due to miscommunication about timing, I was unable to stay to volunteer for the soup kitchen. We were also unable to distribute our self-care kits because we didn't have enough for a number of people the soup kitchen was expecting that night. We did, however, leave our self-care kits to the organization for them to distribute during their next event.
Overall, this project has been an enlightening experience that opened my eyes to the issue of homelessness in Kuala Lumpur. I have come to realize that I am blessed to have a roof over my head to return to at the end of every day and that I would love to return to the soup kitchen in the near future to help those who are less fortunate.
